What is a VA?

There’s the million dollar question isn’t it? Here’s the thing- because there is no regulation on the VA industry, just about anyone can call themselves or something a VA. There’s a machine available for purchase online (not naming names here) that answers your business calls for you – IT IS CALLED A VA. So, there is widespread confusion on what it is.

Here is THIS VA’s definition:

A virtual assistant or VA, is a strategic, long-term partner that works with a client to better their life in many ways.

Now I realize that even THAT description is pretty broad- however, I do that for a reason. What if you simply need someone to help you with personal tasks? That is STILL a VA. What if that VA only likes to work with businesses? That is STILL a VA. There’s no definition in my book that says a VA is someone that helps businesses grow or helps individuals live a more balanced life. That’s up to the VA – and it’s up to YOU to find the one that will best deliver what you are looking for.

What is a freelancer?

A freelancer is someone who works with a client on a smaller project – but one that does not have longevity. Perhaps they specialize in web design, data entry work, programming, etc. They do project work in other words. The main difference between a freelancer and a VA is that a freelancer is more like a short term employee- they are there to carry out one objective. A VA will help you strategize and develop success by really ‘being’ in your life.
